Headquartered in Johnson, VT, Deep Root Organic Co-op consists of 19 member farms from throughout Vermont and the eastern townships of Quebec. Founded in 1986, Deep Root is one of the oldest co-ops of organic vegetable growers in the Northeast. The co-op exists to promote local, sustainable, and organic agriculture through its small, family-owned farms. Due to our size and the variety of our member farms, we offer a wide range of products available throughout the year. A list of our offerings throughout the summer will consist of: tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, several varieties of lettuce, kale, chard, cabbage (green, red, savoy, and nappa), broccoli, collards, fennel, and peas. But, because of our northern location, we are probably best known for our root crops such as carrots, parsnips, beets, rutabagas, burdock, and black radish, and a large variety of winter squash. We also offer throughout the year a unique line of bio-lacto fermented vegetables in varieties such as sliced spiced carrots, grated beets, onions with miso, and sauerkraut. Our products are available direct and through distributors across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. Please contact us for information on product availability.

Equal Exchange and food co-ops have been creating Big Change together since 1986. A worker co-operative, Equal Exchange was a pioneer of Fair Trade here in the US, working with food co-ops to build a food system that empowers farmers and consumers, supports small farmer co-ops, and uses sustainable farming methods. Starting with fairly traded coffee from Nicaragua, we continue to find new and powerful ways to build a better food system, including high-quality organic coffees, teas, chocolates and snacks from all over the world, including here in the United States — and now, fairly traded bananas. With regional offices in the Northeast, Midwest and West Coast, we work directly with you to create custom bulk, packaged and food service programs. Together we can create stronger local communities, a more just food system and a healthier planet.
